Graduate School of Engineering

The Graduate School of Engineering offers students the opportunity to acquire advanced specialized knowledge and skills in various engineering fields, including mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, information and communication systems, applied chemistry, and more. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive education that equips students with the abilities necessary to become highly specialized engineers. In addition to technical expertise, we emphasize the development of skills such as initiative, logical communication using concrete examples, team-building, and other essential competencies beyond academic knowledge. We aim to guide students in becoming professionals who can leverage technology to make meaningful contributions to global culture and the engineering field.

  • Diploma Policy(Master)
    The Graduate School of Engineering aims to develop professionals who contribute to world culture through technology, in line with its founding spirit, in advanced engineering fields and their interdisciplinary areas in society and industry. At the time of completion, students are expected to acquire the following six competencies. The achievement of these competencies, along with the acquisition of the required credits (30 or more credits) as specified in the curriculum, will be considered the accomplishment of the desired graduate profile, and upon completion, the degree of Master of Engineering will be awarded.

    (1) Possesses advanced specialized knowledge and skills, supported by a strong foundation in natural sciences and basic technical expertise in engineering, and has acquired the general knowledge necessary as a highly skilled professional or researcher.
    (2) Has the ability to independently identify problems, even in cases where solutions are not immediately clear, and has acquired the advanced specialized knowledge, logical thinking, and techniques necessary for solving such problems.
    (3) Has developed the ability to apply advanced specialized knowledge to solve problems not only from an engineering perspective but also from a broad, interdisciplinary viewpoint.
    (4) Has acquired advanced presentation and communication skills to explain and convey their thinking and decision-making processes, providing concrete examples and supporting evidence.

    To ensure the acquisition of the competencies defined in the Diploma Policy of the Graduate School of Engineering, the following basic principles for curriculum development and three specific guidelines for curriculum organization are established.

    The curriculum is structured around a carefully selected set of courses to ensure that, regardless of the specific courses taken, students can acquire the competencies defined in the Diploma Policy. Additionally, for each specialized subject group, learning and educational objectives are established, and the system and sequencing of courses necessary to achieve these objectives are clearly defined through a curriculum map and course numbering system.
     
    [Specific Guidelines for Curriculum Organization] 
    (1) Courses are provided to develop foundational knowledge and general capabilities essential for applying and developing engineering theories, along with courses that ensure the solid establishment of advanced specialized knowledge, technical skills, and a broad perspective within the engineering field. 
    (2) Courses are offered to apply advanced and specialized knowledge, technical skills, and general capabilities in the engineering field, enabling students to independently set challenges, develop action plans, assign tasks, execute, verify, and improve solutions in collaboration with others, all through practical learning. 
    (3) Courses are provided to help students understand the ethics and social responsibilities they must uphold as advanced engineers or researchers, including respecting life, complying with laws, and prohibiting actions such as data manipulation, theft, and plagiarism.
  • Criteria for Evaluation of Master's Thesis
    The master's thesis at the Graduate School of Engineering, Chiba Institute of Technology, is evaluated based on the following criteria in accordance with the Diploma Policy (degree conferral policy). The evaluation is conducted holistically.
     
    (1) The thesis summarizes the research or a specific topic undertaken by the degree candidate.
    (2) The research or topic demonstrates academic background and social significance.
    (3) The structure, argumentation, references, and cited materials in the thesis are accurate.
    (4) The research is conducted based on a clear sense of the problem and analysis, leading to appropriate conclusions based on the results.
    (5) The results of the research or topic include novelty, originality, effectiveness, and ethical considerations.
    (6) The presentation and response to questions during the master's thesis defense demonstrate logical clarity and mastery of the subject matter.
  • Diploma Policy(Doctor)
    In the doctoral program, in addition to diverse and advanced specialized knowledge in engineering, students are expected to develop a broad perspective, comprehensive judgment, and deep insight. They will be trained to play a leading role in advancing fundamental and pioneering academic research and contribute to various fields of engineering. The requirements for the conferral of a Doctor of Engineering degree are: completion of the prescribed period of study as defined by the graduate school, earning the required number of credits, and passing the doctoral thesis review and final examination.

    The doctoral thesis at the Graduate School of Engineering is evaluated based on the following criteria in accordance with the Diploma Policy:
     
    (1) The thesis summarizes the research or a specific topic tackled by the degree candidate.
    (2) The research or topic demonstrates academic background and social significance.
    (3) The structure, argumentation, references, and cited materials in the thesis are accurate.
    (4) The research is conducted based on a clear sense of the problem and analysis, leading to appropriate conclusions based on the results.
    (5) The results of the research or topic demonstrate novelty, originality, effectiveness, and ethical considerations, contributing to academic development in the field.
    (6) The presentation and response to questions during the doctoral thesis defense demonstrate logical clarity and mastery of advanced academic knowledge in the field, as well as proficiency in foreign languages, as determined through the final examination.

Graduate School of Creative Engineering

The Graduate School of Creative Engineering provides students with the opportunity to learn and acquire at a high-level the specialized knowledge and skills in the field of urban environmental engineering, which is a combination of all areas of architecture and design. In addition, the program seeks to educate professionals so that they maintain the ethical perspective and social responsibility of advanced specialized engineers and acquire the communicative ability and creativity as well as logical thinking and other knowledge aspects necessary for deducing solutions to problems, putting forth plans and proposals, and translating these into execution. During the two-year program, students acquire greater practical presentation and teambuilding skills that are put to use in the production process.

    (4) Possess advanced presentation and communication skills, able to logically explain one’s thought and decision-making processes, and convey these with concrete examples and evidence. Moreover, can apply and utilize these skills creatively in global contexts. 
    (5) Have the ability to effectively carry out group work and research activities, utilizing team-building techniques to establish strong cooperative relationships.

Graduate School of Advanced Engineering

In the Graduate School of Advanced Engineering, research is conducted in areas such as robotics, biotechnology, and AI, using advanced and comprehensive expertise and technology to adapt to changes in science and technology, globalization, and other societal shifts. Students deepen their logical thinking, presentation skills, and understanding of ideal values and social responsibility as advanced specialists, all while carrying out research to develop new solutions.

The Graduate School of Information and Computer Science offers education and research opportunities to further enhance expertise in information science for an increasingly globalized and information-driven society. The school’s master’s program is designed to produce engineers and researchers with highly professional expertise that is useful not only in the field of information processing but also across various industries. The doctoral program is designed to cultivate researchers who possess the most advanced knowledge and skills in information science and are capable of leading and advancing pioneering academic research.

  • Diploma Policy(Master)
    The Master's Program in Information and Computer Science aims to develop students who have acquired advanced expertise in the field of information science, along with problem-solving and research abilities, contributing to the advancement of the industry through information science technologies. The program aims to train students who meet the following criteria:
    (1) Can acquire advanced specialized knowledge in intelligent information engineering, information systems engineering, information network engineering, and media information science, and be able to apply these technologies effectively from a specialized perspective.

    Building upon the general and specialized education provided at the undergraduate level, this program is designed to cultivate advanced research and development capabilities that can adapt to the rapidly evolving and diversifying field of information technology. The curriculum includes the following courses to ensure students develop a broad perspective and deep academic expertise:
     
    (1) Specialized courses in Intelligent Information Engineering, Information Systems Engineering, Information Network Engineering, and Media Information Science, along with common technology courses that span multiple fields, enabling students to acquire both specialized knowledge and applied technical skills.
     
    (2) Master’s Special Research courses are included to help students develop problem identification and research execution skills within their respective fields. Graduate School of Social Systems Science

The Graduate School of Social Systems Science offers education and research on the scientific and engineering methodologies of management, addressing everything from business management to socio-economic systems.
In the master's program, we cultivate highly skilled professionals and researchers capable of managing increasingly complex and diversified systems.
In the doctoral program, we aim to train researchers with advanced expertise in management and social systems, enabling them to create new knowledge systems in their specialized fields.

    In the Master's program, education and research focus on the engineering methodology of management, targeting systems from individual companies to society as a whole. The curriculum includes:
    (1) Courses that form the foundation of advanced specialized fields and are applied in practice.
    (2) Specialized courses related to social systems and management.
    (3) Master's special research with advanced expertise.
     
    Completion requirement includes the acquisition of management abilities and advanced specialized skills to address the diversification and complexity of systems.
     
    The requirements for the Master's (Engineering) degree are as follows:

    The Master's program provides the opportunity to develop advanced research abilities, a broad perspective, and deeper systematic academic knowledge. The curriculum includes:
    (1) Common Graduate Courses to acquire foundational knowledge for advanced specialized subjects, practical experience in management engineering, and thesis writing.
    (2) Specialized courses in four fields: socio-economic systems, management information systems, project management, and risk management.
